Argentum and Bright lights Swiss Chard

I

I would highly recommend planting Bright Lights Swiss Chard, because it is so pretty, and the stems add nice color when you are cooking. It doesn't get quite as big as some of the other varieties, but I think it is a little more tender. I also grew a white stemmed variety called Argentum. This is how my patch looked at the end  of October. I picked it over and over this summer, even when it was one hundred degrees out. I never watered it and it did great under semi desert conditions. I have really developed almost a craving for it cooked. I brown turkey sausage in a frying pan, with olive oil and water, so it doesn't burn. Then I put a tablespoon of peanut butter, and a teaspoon of fermented fish sauce in the pan. Also a pinch of hot pepper and black pepper. Then put in the Chard and cook until it is wilted. Serve it on rice or boiled, or steamed potatoes with some soy sauce.

Bright Lights Swiss Chard

I think you can plant the Swiss Chard as early as you want. We had really cold weather and I still had great germination. Theses plants are eight weeks planted. I almost could pick some if I wanted to. They are really pretty in the garden, and good to eat if you like greens. They will grow back every time after you cut them and take the heat really well They will grow until they freeze..

Texas Supersweet Onion and Sweet Red Onions

I planted today 100 each of the Sweet Red Onions, and Texas Super Sweet White onion plants. Also planted underneath the burlap are Giant Prague Celeriac, Sunrise Red Carrots, and Purple Haze Carrots. I also planted this week Bright lights Swiss Chard, and Evergreen Long White Bunching Onions. Covering the seed beds with the burlap helps with the germination of small seeds. It has been real dry here so far, In the last month we really haven't had a decent rain. Its been pretty cold also. but its supposed to warm up this week.
